Maine Snowmobile Association: The Sledders Ally in Augusta …
Final report of the 2008-2009 season. Grooming has ended for the season.
SNOW & WEATHER REPORT: Base depth (MEASURED IN Oquossoc): 24â€. We are into spring weather with temperatures above freezing by mid-morning and below freezing as the sun sets.
TRAIL CONDITIONS: There is little or no snow left on the approaches to Rangeley and Oquossoc. The lakes are wet. There is plenty of snow on the trails and back country logging roads north of Rangeley. These areas should be ridable into at least mid-April. Be considerate of the landowners when you ride on plowed roads or park your trailers. Bosebuck Camps plans to be open through April 5th for food, lodging and gas. Other access points may be in Adamstown, Langtown, at Route 16 in Oquossoc (maybe) and near Loon Lake. [Read more...]
We will groom as much as possible for this weekend March 28 & 29 and again for next weekend April 4 & 5 if conditions permit. Snowcover is excellent north of Rangeley Village and up to Bosebuck and NH. Best access off or onto Rangeley Lake is the trail past the Club House Resturant. Â
SNOW & WEATHER REPORT: Base depth (MEASURED IN Oquossoc): 27â€. We are into spring weather with temperatures above freezing by mid-morning and below freezing as the sun sets. Afternoon riding is the best. It may be very firm early unless we can get our grooming crews out or if it’s a mild evening We can only groom after the temperatures fall below freezing long enough for the trail surface to refreeze.
TRAIL CONDITIONS: All trails are open. Riding is very good as you get north of Route 4 and especially away from Rangeley and Oquossoc Villages. If it is a cold morning, wait until after the trail surfaces loosen up. Trails are generally flat and firm. Conditions are good to very good. There are some bare and icy areas near Rangeley and Oquossoc and at road crossings but there is still good base depth every where else. Use caution-especially in corners and in exposed wind blown areas. [Read more...]
