Snowmobile Ride & Scavenger Hunt on February 21, 2009
February 13, 2009 by buzzie
Please join us on Saturday, February 21, 2009 for a Breast Cancer Fundraiser; a Snowmobile Ride and Scavenger Hunt in Rangeley, Maine. Registration for this event is from 8am -10am at the Club House Restaurant & Lounge, Rte 4, Rangeley, ME, and is sponsored by The Rangeley Lakes Snowmobile Club.
Three women with two common passions organized this fundraiser. One is to help find a cure for breast cancer and the other is snowmobiling. Lori Elwell, Maria Bickford and Brenda Smith belong to a team comprised of eight individuals, men and women, known as the Walkers for Knockers. With the help from family, friends and the community, this team has raised over $38,000 over the last two years for the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer. The fundraising goal for 2009 is set at $20,000. The donations are a combination from friends, family, community members and other fundraiser proceeds.
On May 16 and 17, 2009, six of the eight team members will walk 40 miles over two days in Boston at the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer. The other two members will join many other Avon Crew members supporting all of the over two thousand walkers over those two days; each job as important as the other. Some members of the team are participating in the walk for their third year while others for the first time.
These dedicated women wanted to do something fun and different and came up with the idea of a Scavenger Hunt. The participants will engage in a snowmobile ride along the trails of Rangeley and a scavenger hunt. The participants can earn points towards winning in a few ways; 1) Visiting participating businesses, 2) Spending money at those businesses, 3) Finding scavenger items at some of those businesses and 4) Finding scavenger items along the trails. The person with the most points will win at least a $100 cash prize, 2nd and 3rd place prizes will also be awarded.
There will be a “Celebration Party” held at the Club House Restaurant & Lounge starting at 7:30pm where the winners of the scavenger hunt will be announced. The band Educating Einstein will also be performing at 9pm. To find out more about the band, please visit http://www.myspace.com/educatingeinsteinband. Event T-shirts, tickets for the 50/50 and all other raffles will be on sale all day at the Club House from 8am until winners are announced that evening.
The registration fee is $35 per individual and $50 per family of 2 or more. The registration allows you to participate in the ride and also includes $10 in free raffle tickets (excluding the 50/50 raffle) in addition to entertainment at the Celebration Party. If you can’t participate in the Snowmobile Ride and Scavenger Hunt, please still join us at the Celebration Party and enjoy the band and take a chance at winning some of our great raffle prizes. A $5 donation will be requested at the door.
The feedback of the Rangeley businesses, as well as the community, has been very positive and their support has been very encouraging. By participating in the event, donating items for our raffle and by making other donations, everyone has truly stepped up to help us spread the word. Thank you all for helping us to organize a safe, fun and hopefully very successful event!
If you are unable to attend the event, but would like to support us, we thank you for any donation you can make.
